Early intervention cuts worst mental health experiences by 93% for Axa Health – Smith

Early intervention has cut the number of employees who go on to experience a severe or moderately severe mental health condition by 93%, according to Axa Health.

Heather Smith, CEO of Axa Health (pictured), outlined how digital support had been significantly cutting the frequency of the worst mental health experiences and helped with other important conditions.

Speaking at the Association of British Insurers (ABI) Keeping Britain Working conference, Smith explained two trends had been driving the demand for digital services among employers.

“The focus we see has been in two particular trends – muscles, bones and joints (MSK) and mental health,” Smith said.

“The online services are about that very fast access, often same day or within three days, you’re up and running and into treatment which of course results in significantly better outcomes and faster access to treatment.

“We’ve found there is a very high satisfaction rating from people using those services in getting straight away the support they need.”

Smith added the provider’s employee assistance programme has also delivered an extensive amount of data.

“The good thing about the digital tools is we get data and tracking and what we’re seeing is the faster we get people into talking therapies and therapy support, the better the outcome,” Smith said.

“We can see there is a 93% reduction in people that go onto have severe or moderately severe mental health conditions as a result of early intervention.”
