The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has reported a 13% increase in income protection complaints year-on-year, according to its complaints data.
But the data also pointed to a 6% increase in PMI complaints and a 4% increase in life and critical illness complaints over the same period.
According to the data, in the income protection and other accident, sickness and unemployment category, the regulator received 7,453 complaints across its 2023 financial year, up from 6,585 in 2022.
Across the whole of life, term assurance and critical illness category, the regulator received 50,559 complaints in 2023, up from 48,598 in 2022.
And in the medical and health category, the FCA received 165,594 complaints in 2023, up from 156,140 in 2022.
However, bucking the trend, across other pure protection products, the regulator reported just 983 complaints in 2023, down 98.8% from the 79,258 it received in its previous financial year.
