Team GBG and Team Health & Protection once again faced off in the latest edition of the FJN Cup in aid of Wolfram Syndrome UK at Horsham Football Club, West Sussex
A highly competitive game saw Team GBG run out 3-2 winners as they determindly clung on to their slender lead in the pouring rain, despite a final bombardment from Team Health & Protection.
The first half somehow remained goalless despite several dangerous opportunities from both sides, with the white shirts of Team Health & Protection carrying the balance of the play and unlucky not to be in the lead.
The end-to-end action resumed in the second half and it was not long until both sides had got on the scoresheet.
Amit Bhudia (Libra Financial) opened the scoring for Team GBG 10 minutes after the break with some smart footwork through the defence, only for Juan Pena-Nunez (AMI) to level three minutes later for Team Health & Protection, finishing off a swift move down the right wing.
A brace from Darren Nicol (Rossborough) restored Team GBG’s lead in the 71st minute and extended it 10 minutes later, before James Walker (Charles Taylor Assistance) ensured a nervy end to the game for GBG with a stooping near-post header with two minutes of the ninty remaining.
That triggered intense pressure on the Team GBG goal deep into injury time but the blue shirts held firm to claim the win.
GBG managing director for UK, Europe and CIS Claire Hargreaves (pictured centre) accepted the trophy on behalf of the victorious team.
