Cignpost Group has appointed Hugh Hessing, the former UK chief operating officer of Aviva, to its board of directors.

With more than three decades of leadership in the financial services sector, Hessing (pictured) played a key role in the sale of Direct Line Group to Aviva, and prior to that, held multiple senior roles at Aviva, including UK COO, UK customer services director, and CEO of Aviva Ireland.

In addition to this, Hessing was a director of KPMG’s European insurance business.

Earlier this month, Ian Talbot, CEO of Healix Health, joined Cignpost’s board after Healix Health acquired a stake in the insurance brand.

Hessing is not replacing any existing Cignpost Group directors the firm confirmed to Health & Protection.

Steve Whatley, CEO of Cignpost Group, said: “Cignpost is rapidly emerging as the blueprint for next-generation health insurance in the UK, providing customer certainty today, better health tomorrow.

“Hugh’s profound operational experience and sector-wide credibility will be instrumental in helping us scale intelligently and challenge the status quo. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the board.”

Hessing added: “Cignpost has identified a genuine opportunity to reshape how the UK thinks about health insurance – placing proactive diagnostics and customer empowerment at its core.

“I’m excited to support the business at this crucial stage, and to help deliver a model of healthcare that is truly aligned with the needs of today’s consumers and the future demands of the system.”
