Aviva has appointed former Axa Health CEO Tracy Garrad as CEO of Aviva Canada.

Garrad (pictured) who stepped down as Axa Health CEO in April, succeeds Jason Storah from 16 October who has been appointed Aviva’s CEO, UK and Ireland general insurance.

Adam Winslow, most recently CEO of UK and Ireland general insurance, will be leaving Aviva to join Direct Line Group as its new CEO. Direct Line said it expected he will take up his new role in the first quarter of next year.

Over her career Garrad was CEO of HSBC’s Channel Islands and Isle of Man business and before that CEO of First Direct Bank. She is also a non-executive director of The London Stock Exchange.

Garrad will report to Aviva group CEO Amanda Blanc and join Aviva’s group executive committee.

Storah’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval while Garrad’s is subject to visa and regulatory approval.

Blanc said she looked forward to welcoming Garrad to Aviva Canada later this year.

“Tracy brings a wealth of experience to our business, across multiple sectors, and her expertise will prove invaluable as we continue grow our Canada franchise, and Aviva more broadly,” Blanc said.

“She is a proven CEO, with the strength of leadership to add value to our business across the Atlantic.”

Garrad said: “I feel very privileged to be joining Aviva at such an exciting time.

“I look forward to working with Amanda and meeting the team in Canada, and I am relishing the opportunity to join a business so focussed on customers, and shooting for even further growth in this fantastic franchise.”

Blanc described Storah as a CEO with a track record in running a high performing general insurance business.

“Our Canada operation has thrived under his stewardship,” she continued. “Having successfully led its turnaround, as most recently evidence in yet another strong quarter of growth, I am thrilled he has now accepted the role of CEO of our UK & Ireland general insurance business.

“I look forward to him applying his considerable talent to taking that business forward.”
