Former Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) chief operating officer David Oldfield has been honoured as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his work in workplace mental health, wellbeing and disability.

Oldfield spent four decades at LBG and was chairman of the wellbeing leadership team for Business in The Community (BITC) before stepping down from full time executive life in 2024.

His time at the bank included being executive sponsor for mental health, disability and neurodiversity at Lloyds Banking Group and he was a non-executive director at Motability Operations.

Having left LBG in summer 2023 he took up a position as non-executive director and chairman of the board’s risk committees at Santander UK last month.

Oldfield said he felt “immensely humbled” to have been recognised with an OBE.

“I’ve been privileged over the years to have shaped priorities as executive sponsor for mental health, disability and neurodiversity at Lloyds Banking Group, to have chaired the pan-industry wellbeing leadership team for Business in The Community (BiTC), and to have served as a non-executive director on the board of Motability Operations Ltd,” he said.

“In all of these areas, I’m proud of the efforts of so many people striving to reduce stigma and drive inclusion in the workplace.

“We’ve made progress as a society but still have a lot to do to remove the barriers which continue to exist for people with disabilities, or long-term health conditions, both in the workplace and in their everyday lives.”
