HCML has appointed James Cracknell as its first rehabilitation ambassador.
In his role Cracknell will support HCML in championing its rehabilitation capabilities and act as an advocate in the importance of receiving case management care.
Cracknell was involved in a serious road cycling accident which left him with severe brain injuries and in a coma for three weeks in 2010.
As a result he is a big advocate of rehabilitation and case management and the importance of an individual knowing their own strengths and resilience during recovery and taking responsibility for their own rehabilitation where possible, the firm said.
The six-time world rowing champion and double Olympic gold medallist was appointed OBE for services to sport in the New Year Honours list in 2005.
Over the last 10 years he has been an active campaigner for safer sports and the prevention of head injuries including promoting the importance of wearing a helmet when cycling.
Cracknell said: “I understand the importance for patients in having access to both optimum care and being inspired and motivated to maximise their own rehabilitation.
“Families and victims alike must receive the right support to help them understand, cope and where possible minimise the impact of life changing injuries.”
