Howden Employee Benefits has appointed John Deegan to its UK board as a non-executive director.
He will also advise the global employee benefits executive leadership team on expanding the business internationally.
Deegan (pictured), who ended his brief retirement to take on these roles, brings more than 25 years of international employee benefits experience to Howden.
This was largely earned at Mercer Marsh Benefits, where his roles included leading the multinational employee benefits business.
He was also responsible for Darwin, Mercer Marsh’s global benefits technology platform.
Deegan has led teams across more than 70 countries, where he brought together local expertise and technology to help multinationals manage the benefits of their employees across different markets.
The right challenge
Glenn Thomas, chief executive and global practice leader of health and employee benefits, worked with Deegan in a previous role and said he will bring huge value to Howden.
“John knows this market inside out and has spent his career working with multinational employers, building strong teams and understanding what clients need from their benefits partner.
“We are building something exciting at Howden and there is a real opportunity ahead of us.
“Having John on the board brings experience, perspective and the right sort of challenge,” he added.
Deegan said he is drawn to Howden’s people, the energy and the chance to be part of a business that is building with real intent.
