Iain McMillan, Bupa director of distribution – business and specialist products, is to retire from 1 January 2025.

McMillan (pictured) has spent more than 30 years within the industry including the last seven years leading the intermediary and sales teams at Bupa.

Confirming McMillan’s decision, the insurer recognised his “significant” impact across the industry over three decades in health insurance.

Prior to his current role, he spent nine years within the Axa Health group through its insurance and intermediary operations.

This included 18 months as intermediary development director for Axa PPP Healthcare and then three years as managing director of its health services arm for the UK and Europe and as director of SME.

In between he was managing director of its advice operation The Health Insurance Group and the overarching Health & Protection Solutions limited.

Before that he was sales director at Standard Life Healthcare from 2001 until 2008.

“Under Iain’s leadership our intermediary team has gone from strength to strength, building lasting relationships across the intermediary network and contributing to significant growth across the business,” Bupa said.

“We thank Iain for his fantastic contribution to Bupa and wish him every happiness in his retirement.”

Bupa added a recruitment process for his successor is underway, which it will share in due course.
