IGO roundtable: Preventative care in global action

Preventative healthcare is the hot topic among health insurers and organisations as they try to keep employees fit and healthy while also reducing the strain on budgets covering significant healthcare bills.

In the case of intergovernmental organisations (IGOs), their context is usually pretty complex, especially when operating in remote, unstable areas or with fragile populations and uncertain funding.

Combining that with the strong ethical approach often held by most of these organisations and there is a more compelling case for supporting employees through preventative care.

This was strongly evident among those gathered in Paris for this Health & Protection roundtable in association with Axa Health International – employee welfare was high on the agenda of all participants.

Every organisation represented was implementing some form of preventative care, screening programme or risk assessment for their employees and these are needed, especially for mental health given common operating situations.

However, they were all also under scrutiny with some already being pared back due to a myriad of issues often beyond the organisation’s control.

Demonstrating the value of these preventative health schemes is vital to ensure they continue to be a core benefit for all employers and employees.
