The Income Protection Task Force (IPTF) has launched ‘Misrepresentation Matters’, the third chapter in its ‘7 Claims Stories’ series, led by the protection industry’s Phil Deacon (pictured).
The feature tackles misrepresentation, a leading cause of declined income protection claims, with Cara Spinks, head of life and health at actuarial consultancy Broadstone, outlining the true cost of misrepresentation – not just for customers, but for advisers, insurers, and the industry’s overall credibility.
The story also includes adviser tips, case studies, and insurer insights and explores the regulatory lens through the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) Consumer Duty, offering actionable guidance for everyone in the sector.
“If we’re serious about helping more customers get the support they need, we have to take misrepresentation seriously – and that means changing how we all engage in the protection process,” Deacon said.
The IPTF described this third episode as essential reading for advisers, insurers, underwriters, claims professionals, and anyone committed to improving outcomes across the protection landscape.
It will be rolled out on IPTF’s website and social platforms throughout the week. It starts with a quiz titled ‘How much do you know about misrep?’ and ends with a take on how AI could help tackle misrepresentation in the future.
