Association of British Insurers (ABI) director of general insurance James Dalton is leaving the trade body.

As part of his role Dalton (pictured) has been the one of trade body’s leading spokespeople for health insurance for seven and a half years – this included speaking at the first Health & Protection IPMI Summit in May.

In all he has been at the ABI, where he is also assistant director, head of motor and liability insurance, for 15 years.

Dalton will leave the organisation by the end of the year to join the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) where he will take up the position of chief services officer.

He will sit on the executive team, reporting to chief executive Dominic Clayden and will be charged with creating a stronger alignment between MIB’s services and the needs of the insurance industry.

As part of his role Dalton will also oversee the delivery of client companies including Insurance Fraud Bureau and Official Injury Claim.

Commenting on Twitter, Dalton said: “I’ve had an incredible time at the ABI and want to thank the team here and all those I’ve worked with across the industry, [government] and regulators for their support.”

ABI director general Hannah Gurga added: “I have really enjoyed working with James in my first year leading the ABI.

“I am delighted that he will remain a key figure in the insurance industry and an important partner of the ABI and our members.”

Yvonne Braun is director for long-term savings and protection at the ABI and Roshani Hill is assistant director, head of health and protection at the trade body.
