MetLife UK has appointed Phil Jeynes as head of individual protection, succeeding Rich Horner in the role.
The provider said Jeynes (pictured) will be pivotal in leading the distribution strategy while aligning the individual protection business across marketing, propositions, customer service, and other critical areas, with a primary focus to set the strategic direction of the individual protection business in the UK.
He will join the UK executive team and report to UK deputy CEO Adrian Matthews.
Prior to joining, Jeynes was director of corporate strategy at Reassured, a role he left at the end of 2024 after returning to full health following an operation for colon cancer.
In the same month MetLife announced it was promoting Rich Horner to UK deputy general manager.
Jeynes started at Reassured in September 2019. Prior to that was head of sales and marketing at UnderwriteMe, from 2015 to 2019. During his career in insurance he also worked at Vitality Life and Direct Life and Pension Services.
Elaborating on his move this morning, Jeynes told Health & Protection: “The role came about because previous incumbent Rich Horner has moved to another role within MetLife.
“And so they were looking for somebody else to take that lead and saw that I had left Reassured – so I think it was fortuitous timings from both sides really.
“It’s a great culture at MetLife of people who have been with that business and have progressed within that business over many years.
“And so I’m looking forward to bringing an external market perspective to the enthusiasm and experience that they have got in-house as well.”
Dominic Grinstead, CEO of MetLife UK, added: “Phil’s appointment comes at an important time for the UK, as we seek to accelerate our ambitious growth strategy marking a crucial phase for the business.
“Phil brings with him a wealth of experience in the protection industry, and I welcome him to the team.”
