King Edward VII Hospital, one of the UK’s most prominent independent/private sector hospitals, has appointed Professor Christina Fotopoulou as clinical director of Women’s Health.

Professor Fotopoulou is a consultant gynaecologist whose principal area of expertise is gynaecological cancers, following her training in obstetrics, gynaecology and gynaecological oncology at the Charité University Hospital of Berlin.

She is also a consultant gynaecological oncologist at Imperial College London Hammersmith Hospital, is a principal investigator of the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre, UK and holds a chair at the Charité University of Berlin.

King Edward VII Hospital chief executive Lindsey Condron said: “Christina’s appointment will help bring together all of our highly advanced women’s services, led by some of the most established consultants from all around the world and allowing us to develop further as a centre of surgical and clinical excellence in women’s health.

“We’ve long been committed to women’s health as a practice area, and as a hospital we pride ourselves on our agility and ability to adapt. We’re confident that under Christina’s directorship the service will flourish, providing the highest quality services that our patients need.”

King Edward VII’s Hospital women’s health service brings together specialist centres for gynaecology – with a special focus on diagnostics, gynaecological oncology and the treatment of severe endometriosis – with breast health, including triple assessment breast screening, reconstructive and oncoplastic breast surgery, and fertility.
