Legal & General has withdrawn its two paid-for additional services from its proposition within the last six months after the third-party provider Axis Speciality London, withdrew its support.
Responding to questions from Health & Protection, L&G did not address whether it was considering removing or making changes to its other additional benefits.
The insurer removed the Fracture Cover benefit for new applications as part of its latest set of protection product and changes last week, while it removed access to the Private Diagnostics service at the end of October.
The pair of annually renewable benefits had cost £5.90 and £4.50 per month respectively.
Commenting on the closure of the two services it said: “Our Fracture Cover and Private Diagnostics provider, Axis Speciality London, served notice and announced its decision to cease all new business and renewals.
“As a result, we notified advisers on October 31 2024 that we were no longer offering Private Diagnostics to new customers. Existing customers will still be covered up until their next renewal date, and we will contact customers 30 days before their renewal date to inform them that the benefit is no longer available for renewal.”
It added that there were no changes to the core cover.
“Fracture cover was removed from new business on April 27,” L&G continued.
“As an annually renewable benefit, customers are notified 30 days before their renewal date if the cover will continue, including any updates to terms or pricing.
“From March 28, or at their relevant renewal dates, customers began receiving notice that renewals for this benefit would no longer be possible. Advisers were notified via email on March 31.
“Customers who renewed prior to this date, will continue to have their cover in place for a full-year, up until April 2026.
“We are committed to regularly reviewing our product offerings and processes to ensure they continue to align with the needs of both intermediaries and our customers,” the insurer concluded.
L&G did not answer questions about the potential low uptake of the benefits
Removing the two products has left L&G with three free additional benefits as part of its proposition – Wellbeing Support, which is provided by RedArc, Care Concierge, and Rehabilitation Support.
Care Concierge is available to all protection customers who have a policy taken out from 20 July 2023 and supports customers in finding right care for their family.
Rehabilitation Support is included on all income protection products and is available as soon as a claim is made, aiming to support a quicker return to work with access to expert help.
Health & Protection contacted Axis Capital, parent company of Axis Speciality London, for comment, but had received no comment up to the time of publication.
