Long Covid sufferer numbers up by 100,000

The number of people suffering symptoms associated with long Covid in the UK has increased by a further 100,000.

The latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data covering the period to the end of October 2021 revealed 1.2 million people have been suffering long Covid symptoms for more than four weeks.

This compares with 1.1m people as of 5 September.

The number of people suffering long Covid symptoms for at least 12 weeks rose to 862,000 from 831,000 in early September, while the number who said they had Covid symptoms for at least a year also rose to 439,000 from 405,000 in the previous month.

Fatigue continued to be the most common symptom of long Covid (56%), followed by shortness of breath (54%), loss of smell (35%), and difficulty concentrating (28%).
