The number of people suffering symptoms associated with long Covid for a least a year has increased by 4,000 in the last month, according to official data.

The latest Office for Nationals Statistics data covering the period to 1 August 2021 revealed 384,000 people have been suffering long Covid symptoms for a year or more, up from 380,000 in early July.

There was also an increase in the number of people who had suffered Covid symptoms for four weeks or more – rising to 970,000 from 945,000 in early July.

However, the data revealed a decline in the numbers who said they had Covid for at least 12 weeks – to 817,000 from 835,000 in the previous month.

Fatigue remains the most common symptom of long Covid, followed by shortness of breath (42%), muscle ache (32%), and difficulty concentrating (31%).
