A further 4,000 people have joined the ranks of people who are economically inactive due to long term sickness in the UK over April.

Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed the number of long term sick increased by 4,236 in April from the previous month to hit a total of 442,278.

The increase was not as pronounced as in March, however, when the number increased by 23,538 from February to hit 438,042.

Back in March Health & Protection reported the number of people who were economically inactive due to long term sickness in the UK had more than doubled in the past year and was 25 times higher than before the pandemic.
