Medicash has reached half million policyholders after experiencing significant growth over the past few years.
To mark the achievement the Liverpool-based company’s charitable arm, the Medicash Foundation, has launched a £2.1m project to support NHS hospitals and facilities across the North West over the course of the next four years.
The cash plan provider said last year was its fastest growing year in its 152-year history.
The first hospital to receive funding was the newly established Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool
The hospital was built in 2020 at the heart of the city’s unofficial knowledge quarter, and offers state-of-the-art cancer treatment for patients across Merseyside and Cheshire.
As part of Medicash’s four-year project, the foundation announced that through the partnership with Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, it will help to fund a new post for a trainee research advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) to support the centre’s clinical trials and research.
The postholder is expected to play a vital role in the centre’s research and development team, facilitating the delivery of revolutionary new cancer treatments to bolster the fight against cancer.
Other hospitals are expected to benefit under the project.
Sue Weir, CEO of Medicash and a Medicash Foundation trustee (pictured centre) said: “This new position at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is just the beginning of the project.
“We’re looking forward to working with more hospitals across the North West over the coming months to fund even more new positions, and I’m excited to see the incredible impact they’ll have within both their local communities and further afield.”
Emma Whitby, head of research nursing at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, (pictured left with Paul Winter, development manage of the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity on the right) said: “The funding that Medicash is providing for our new trainee research ANP equips our team with even more advanced skills, enabling our patients to be seen by a highly qualified healthcare practitioner that can speed up their treatment process and get them home quicker.
“This donation is invaluable in improving our patients’ experience and it’s a really exciting opportunity for all the team here.“
