The ministerial position for mental health, suicide prevention and patient safety has still not been filled after Nadine Dorries’ departure to become culture secretary.

The post was created last year and was held by Helen Whately before and Dorries took on the responsibility.

However, Whatley who was care minister, was also on the move this week and has now been appointed as exchequer secretary to the Treasury.

As a result there have been new additions to health secretary Sajid Javid’s team at the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), with Gillian Keegan taking on Whatley’s former position as minister for care.

And Maggie Throup has been added to Javid’s team as minister for prevention, public health and primary care.

Health & Protection has contacted the DHSC to ask if the position will be filled or if the responsibilities will be re-allocated.
