Mercer appoints president for Hong Kong and Macau

Richard Roper has been promoted to president of Mercer Hong Kong and Macau, as of this month. 

Roper (pictured), who has been based in Hong Kong since 2014, was previously the Mercer Marsh Benefits  (MMB) leader for Hong Kong and Macau, a position that he held from April 2018. In that role he was responsible for health and benefits for both Hong Kong and Macau.

Bur Roper will have a much wider ambit in his new role.

 “I am delighted and excited to be taking on the Mercer President role in Hong Kong and Macau,” Roper told Health & Protection. 

“In this new role I want to strive to deliver unparalleled value to our clients under the Mercer brand whilst ensuring that we do so while embracing innovation and inclusivity. 

“Hong Kong and Macau are bouncing back, so there a great opportunities for Mercer to help clients optimise their businesses in the coming years,” Roper said.

Prior to Mercer, Roper worked for JLT Asia where he was the managing director for benefit solutions. 

Mercer has been in the Greater Bay Area (GBA,) of China since 1976, and has offices in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. It opened its fourth office in the GBA in December last year, in Macau. The company has other offices across China as well, including: Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and Hangzhou.
