MetLife UK is extending access to its GP24 service to all individual protection policyholders including its 350,000 existing customers for no extra cost.
The insurer said it was a first for non-underwritten protection insurance.
The service is provided by HealthHero and offers a range of on-demand medical support including:
- Unlimited consultations with UK-based remote GPs available to book any time, day, or night, 365 days a year;
- Second medical opinion service, with access to expert specialists who can offer reassurance of serious condition diagnosis and treatment plans;
- Symptom checker, which uses AI to help assess and signpost the customer to appropriate medical advice;
- Flexible prescription collection and local prescription delivery;
- Open referrals to specialist support and medical treatment.
MetLife UK head of propositions Justin Harper: “Not only are we enhancing the value of protection through strengthening the benefits available to customers and, last year, helping over 19,000 claimants, but we’re also keenly focused on increasing the tangible relevance and usability of our proposition.
“We’re delighted to make our new GP24 offering available to new and existing customers, across all of our individual protection products and at no additional cost.
“It offers real convenience and expert reassurance for families at a time when it suits them, to ensure they have the support in place they need.”
HealthHero chief medical director Dr Chris Morris added: “Following the launch of our partnership with MetLife last year, we’re pleased to be extending the virtual GP service to all of MetLife’s individual protection customers and their direct family members.
“Extension of the GP24 service will help provide customers with the flexibility and convenience of an easy-to-book service, connecting patients to experienced, practising GPs through phone and video consultations.
“Our GPs will be able to prescribe medication with a flexible prescription collection or delivery service, as well as open referrals to specialists where required.
“We’re pleased to be providing this valuable support to even more families when they need it.”
