MetLife UK paid out a total of £224m in group risk claims in 2024.

It also saw growth in the number of lives covered overall, covering nearly 140,000 additional employees by the end of 2024 than at the end of the year before.

The provider’s 2024 group claims report revealed that for its group life offering, MetLife paid out £205m to 1,689 customers and 95% of group life payments were paid within 2.5 working days.

The provider also paid out over £19m to its group income protection customers across 6,309 payments.

Where an employee is unable to work because of illness or injury, it provided a replacement income as well as tailored support to help minimise absence.

Charlotte O’Brien, head of employee benefits at MetLife UK, said: “On average, it took just two and a half days to settle our group life claims, helping to make the lives of bereaved families of covered workers slightly easier.

“Employers who offer financial protection benefits to their workforce also offer real and practical help in keeping their employees in work, as well as supporting them financially when there is no other option.

“Both the death or serious illness of an income provider can have devastating impacts on a household, and we’re pleased to have been there in 2024 when nearly 8,000 households either needed income support or lost a family member.”
