National Friendly has appointed John Fotheringham as its head of underwriting.
He steps up from technical lead underwriter to take on the role with immediate effect.
In the past six years, Fotheringham (pictured) has built an underwriting team to prepare the society for a planned expansion into new underwriting markets this year.
Fotheringham’s responsibilities now include overseeing the maintenance of competitive underwriting results, which include guiding the overall underwriting philosophy and leading rules engine development.
Fotheringham said he is proud to have contributed to National Friendly’s significant transformation.
“The underwriting team has played a pivotal role in driving the business forward, and I am excited about supporting our continued growth and ongoing advancements in underwriting innovation,” he added.
Duncan Reeves, National Friendly’s chief operating officer, added that Fotheringham has been instrumental in developing the underwriting service.
“We have developed a reputation for fast underwriting decisions using experienced staff, even where customers can struggle to obtain mainstream insurance.”
