Pacific Life Re has appointed Nicholas Lax as head of research and development in its Europe business unit.
Lax joined the firm in 2018 as a member of its research and development team where he has led the development of different mortality and morbidity assumptions and was also instrumental in the design and implementation of a new experience analysis tool.
Before joining Pacific Life Re, he held a range of roles across consulting, the direct market and reinsurance.
He will report to Matthew Smith, head of divisional research & development.
Commenting on Lax’s appointment, Smith said: “I’m delighted to have Nick leading the Europe R&D team. Nick has a great vision as well as an in-depth knowledge of the UK insurance industry.
“Alongside his experience of cutting-edge analytics Nick will cement and advance Pacific Life Re’s research and development capabilities in the reinsurance market.”
Lax added: “I am excited about taking this step up at Pacific Life Re. I relish the challenge of leading the Europe R&D team and developing the business understanding of biometric risk; both in the context of new opportunities, as well as understanding the inforce book.”
