Bupa Global has restructured its senior management with commercial director Patrick Watt leaving the international private medical insurance (IPMI) provider.
The insurer has created three regional business units – UK and Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific, and Europe – led by general managers who will have full accountability for performance, sales and distribution for each region.
The restructure meant Watt (pictured) left Bupa Global at the end of August after having spent almost five years as commerical director.
Prior to that he was corporate director for Bupa UK for more than five and a half years.
In his 25 years in the sector he also spent almost five years as executive director at Goldman Sachs International and head of health and wellness for EMEA and India at the bank, with a decade before that as UK head of sales at Mercer Health & Benefits.
Bupa noted that Watt was the only person affected by the changes.
Explaining Watt’s departure, the insurer told Health & Protection that the firm’s long-term strategy to drive growth across its IPMI portfolio meant creating clearer lines of responsibility across its global regions to make decisions closer to its customers.
As a result, Conor Heery is continuing as general manager of Europe along with Dean Pollard as general manager for the Middle East and APAC.
Meanwhile Nichola Thomson will join Bupa Global as general manager for UK and Africa, subject to regulatory approval in January 2023.
Watt has since been appointed chief admissions officer at international schools organisation Nord Anglia Education last month.
