Insurers are now proving the value of having customers sharing their data with them and patients are more will to do so, according to Chris Carroll CEO of Bupa Insurance.

Carroll (pictured far left) told the Association of British Insurers (ABI) 2025 conference the answer as to whether customers are happy to share their data was very different to that of a decade ago.

“It was problematic 10 years ago,” Carroll said.

“As insurers, globally we’ve moved into greater provision and upstream relationships with our members.

“We’ve been able to proove that there is value in data sharing, the connectivity… into health data… is really important for us. Certainly within our Blua app.

“We delivered globally about six million consultations last year across primary and secondary care.

“And this is just growing exponentially.”

Carroll added that the business has also been able to learn from slightly different health systems across Europe and other parts of the world.

“But ultimately as a business, we think that digital is going to be the primary interface into our customer base, both from a policy administration and also for care delivery, people getting comfortable,” he continued.

“But the trust element is going to be – are you there at the time that I need you?”
