The number of firms implementing menopause support policies has almost doubled since September, according to digital health platform Peppy.

Peppy’s data showed that 38% of firms it quizzed in January had put menopause policies in place during the past 12 months, up from 20% of employers surveyed in September.

The research also found 29% of employers had always had menopause support in place and 17% were arranging it or planning to in the next 12 months.

The release of the data coincides with rehabilitation treatment and case management solutions provider HCML announcement of its own in-house menopause policy.

The firm said it will embed its policy through training at all levels with the aim to instigate a shift towards having open conversations and breaking the taboo around the impact of the menopause.

Managers will also be provided with guidance and training to ensure they are equipped with the skills to support colleagues experiencing symptoms.

The policy is being launched as part of the firm’s wellbeing strategy covering all aspects of wellbeing, including an employee assistance programme, mental health first aiders and a commitment to hold regular wellbeing meetings.

HCML has signed the Menopause Pledge, a campaign being run by charity Wellbeing of Women. Signing the pledge underlines the firm’s commitment to supporting staff and creating an open working environment. And it is seeking accreditation as a menopause-friendly workplace.

Medical director Dr Rebecca Brady (pictured) said: “As a practising GP, I understand first-hand the impact that menopause symptoms have on individuals.

“I am passionate about supporting a change in the mindset and attitude around menopause and providing a workplace where those experiencing symptoms can access support required, request necessary changes to their work environment and continue to thrive in their career.

“Launching the policy isn’t just to support those experiencing symptoms, it is to help our entire team develop an understanding of menopause so that they are able to support colleagues, friends and family members.”
