The skills needed to be a successful protection adviser should hold Raj Chohan in good stead as she bids to become Lord Alan Sugar’s latest business partner on The Apprentice.

This is according to Joanna Streames, owner of Velvet Mortgage and Insure Services, (pictured) who knows a thing or two about the auditions process for the show.

Last year Streames told Health & Protection about how the eventual Apprentice 2010 winner Stella English was picked ahead of her to appear on the show and how this experience paved the way for her entry into the protection advice sector.

When asked about mortgage and protection adviser Raj Chohan’s prospects on this year’s show, Streames told Health & Protection to be successful on the show a “complete recipe” of ingredients are needed.

“You do have to show teamwork to an extent,” Streames explained. “However, you have to be brave enough to be ruthless when needed. I think if you show your skills without bragging alongside honesty, authenticity about who you are and what you stand for, that’s a good place to start.

“Successful candidates show good entrepreneurial skill and resilience.”

According to Streames, all of these skills are required in abundance as a mortgage and protection adviser.

“So coming from this background should stand someone in good stead for the challenges ahead if they’ve been successful already in this sector of financial services,” she continued.

“You will likely have worked with diverse groups of people in your career and be good at working to deadlines and under pressure all of which should prove an asset not just in The Apprentice but in business generally.”

The Apprentice 2024 kicks off on 1 February.
