Protection adviser wins Wimbledon title

Financial adviser Jordanne Whiley won the Wimbledon women’s doubles wheelchair title on Sunday – her fifth time claiming the trophy.

However, the mortgage and protection adviser at Hearthstone Mortgages was back at work completing applications less than 24 hours later and revealed this will likely be her last season competing.

Whiley, who was awarded an MBE in 2015, (pictured centre) told Health & Protection that after her success on the court over the last two weeks and a celebration yesterday, she was very pleased and keen to be back helping her clients.

“I’m very tired but fine,” she said. “I wanted to get straight back to mortgages as I have got clients to look after and have a lot of work to do as I’ve been off for the last two weeks.”

The victory is Whiley’s fifth at Wimbledon alongside Japanese playing partner and best friend Yui Kamiji (pictured left), and the pair now have a total of 12 Grand Slam titles together.

The second seeded duo completed a 6-0 7-6 win over Lucy Shuker and Kgothatso Montjane in the final while Whiley also reached the semi-finals of the singles tournament but lost to eventual winner Diede De Groot.

She now has her sights set on adding to her two bronze Paralympic medals at the Tokyo games this summer, and will be looking for success at the US Open where she won the singles title in 2015.

Advising full-time

However, the 29-year-old originally from Birmingham set the pieces in motion for her post-playing career by qualifying as a mortgage and protection adviser last year, with this set to be her final season playing tennis.

“I’m looking to retire at the end of this year and will move into advising full time,” she continued.

“I went professional at 16 and am 29 now – it’s a long career and I have a son Jackson (pictured right) now. And it’s been difficult to balance work, life, world sport and motherhood.

“There’s some crossover between the two careers – the need for professionalism, working under pressure, attention to detail, so it’s not that big a jump in that way.

“It’s just very different going to the office compared with the court and travelling the world playing,” she added.

With a career ahead of her in financial services, Whiley is happy to be working on the property finance side for the moment.

“I’m really interested in the lending side of mortgages, bridging and so on, I have passion for that side of things so plan on staying within the lending world,” she added.
