Protection Guru has hired Jason Coleman as a training and research manager as the firm intends to considerably increase its technical training and support capabilities.
Coleman (pictured) will start on 7 January and will be responsible for a significant increase in the level of technical output as well as a series of new training initiatives, the firm said.
He spent the last seven years at Guardian Financial Services supporting its launch into the protection market, as training and competence manager and also senior manager for learning and development (L&D).
Coleman departed the insurer late last year being a victim of Guardian’s new strategy under interim CEO Peter Mann, which Health & Protection revealed included redundancies across the business.
Coleman has spent almost 40 years in the corporate L&D sector with more than 30 of those within financial services.
This included five years at Phoenix and more than 17 years at Britannic Assurance, along with further roles at Capita Life & Pensions and Resolution.
Announcing the appointment Protection Guru called Coleman “one of the most respected protection trainers and technicians in the industry”.
Health & Protection also reported three key departures at Protection Guru in the final quarter of last year.
Enthusiasm for protection
Protection Guru founder Ian McKenna noted 2024 was a transitional year for the business.
“I’m delighted to start the New Year bringing on board such a popular and respected industry specialist to help us with a mission to grow the protection market,” he said.
Coleman added he was “hugely excited” to be taking on the role and working on the granular detail which advisers required.
“I’m delighted to have the chance to continue sharing my enthusiasm for all things protection, and to help the adviser community to add real value to their conversations with consumers,” he said.
“This is more important than ever given the Financial Conduct Authority’s Consumer Duty requirement that advisers consider value across all protection products.“
