Starting income protection (IP) conversations, signposting to specialists and sharing positive stories around claims are just some of the pledges made by leading personalities of the protection industry.

To round off Income Protection Awareness Week, the Income Protection Taskforce revealed some of the pledges made by some of the sector’s more familiar names.

Emma Thomson, head of protection and general insurance propositions at Sesame Bankhall Group, revealed the week had a special resonance as her IP cover came into its own in 2019 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Thomson committed to working with advisers to give them the confidence to have IP conversations and to work with them to ensure IP products were more attractive to consumers to buy and help more people claim.

Johnny Timpson vowed to improve consumer access to insurance and committed to signposting to IP specialists.

Mark Cracknell, head of protection sales at Aviva, pledged to continue to share positive stories around IP claims and publishing customer stories of videos for advisers to share with clients demonstrating the impact IP is having on customer’s lives.

Richard Kateley, an industry veteran who recently retired after three decades at Legal & General, and Tom Baigrie, founder and CEO of LifeSearch, pledged to continue talking about the importance of IP.

Setul Mehta, head of business development operations at the Openwork Partnership, pledged to support and educate the next generation of advisers and clients on the long term financial security a good IP policy can bring.

Finally, Stuart Traghiem, CEO at Holloway Friendly, pledged to remain dedicated to IP and to help members and their advisers gain access to the cover that they need through an inclusive underwriting philosophy and relevant affordable products.
