Working To Wellbeing has seen a steady stream of people using its long Covid services throughout the pandemic but is concerned about the potential impact of the Omicron variant wave, according to managing director Julie Denning.
Yesterday, official data revealed the number of people who have been suffering associated with long Covid for more than a year in the UK hit more than a half a million for the first time.
Commenting on the upward trend of cases, Denning told Health & Protection long Covid case numbers coming through to her firm’s service have been consistent throughout the pandemic.
“We’ve definitely noticed consistent numbers coming through our service so we are still seeing long Covid cases regularly,” she said.
“We’re concerned about Omicron surging and predictions around seeing further incremental [long Covid] cases in about two or three months time.”
Denning added while the volume of cases have been largely unchanged, she was curious about whether Omicron would bring different symptoms.
“We’re a biased population because we’re working in the income protection space but for us, it’s a continuation of a steady stream of people with long Covid coming through the service and symptoms haven’t really shifted very much in terms of their experience,” she continued.
“It will be interesting to see with Omicron whether there are any different symptoms that we see from a long Covid perspective as a result of that variant but it’s too early to say at the moment.
“Otherwise we’re seeing the normal raft of symptoms.”
