Swiss Re has appointed Jason Richards as CEO of UK and Ireland and country president.

He will take on the position from 1 January and will be responsible for driving profitable growth of the UK and Ireland reinsurance portfolio and continuing to strengthen the reinsurer’s position in the London market.

Richards has almost 30 years’ experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry and is currently global head of casualty at Swiss Re having joined the business in 2006 as part of the GE Insurance Solutions acquisition.

He became head of property and casualty business management in 2013 before taking on his current role in November 2017.

The reinsurer said in this role he had successfully improved the quality of its casualty portfolio, grown the respective transactions portfolio, and set a strong foundation for its solutions business.

Julie Stephenson will join Swiss Re filling Richards’ position as global head of casualty and also becoming a member of the reinsurance management team.

She is joining from US commercial and property insurer CNA where she currently serves as a senior vice president and chief operating officer, middle market.

Swiss Re CEO of reinsurance Moses Ojeisekhoba said he was very pleased with the appointments.

“Jason Richards will bring a wealth of experience and strong track record to lead the important UK & Ireland market,” he said.

“With Julie Stephenson, we’ve found an accomplished leader as global head of casualty with over 25 years of industry experience and profound knowledge in casualty underwriting.”
