The Boss, Bach, Coldplay and even an adviser’s son’s own band feature among our latest list of stress-busting songs the great and the good from the sector listen to in order to reduce stress.
Last week, to mark Stress Awareness Month this April, Health & Protection spoke to advisers up and down the country about which songs they listen to when stress mounts.
The story proved struck such a chord (do you see what we’ve done there?) with readers that we thought we would ask for some more suggestions.
Happy, sunny song
Naomi Greatorex, managing director at Heath Protection Solutions, has gone for Waitin’ On A Sunny Day by The Boss, Bruce Springsteen.
“It’s a really, happy, sunny song and I’ve watched him sing it live and it was amazing,” Greatorex told Health & Protection. “It’s a combination of it being a really pretty, summery song and watching Bruce sing it live.”
Andrew Wilkinson, director at Moneysworth, has opted for a song by his son’s band, Maruja.
“The Tinker is my choice,” Wilkinson said. “It’s a beautiful instrumental piece and it’s a got a lot of passion within in it, but also it’s very calming.”
Best guitar section
For Lianne Harrington, senior healthcare adviser at Lifepoint Healthcare, a more upbeat dance track is in order.
“My choice is Prince and The Revolution – Let’s Go Crazy,” Harrington said.
“The track is full of energy and spirit – it’s cheeky and has the best guitar section at the end. It makes me smile every time.”
Serene Speed of Sound
John Kerr, director at Incorporate Group, prefers the serenity of Speed of Sound by Coldplay.
“I just find Coldplay a very mellow band and there’s a calmness to it as well,” Kerr told Health & Protection.
Music buff Peter Hamilton, head of market engagement at Zurich, went back Bach in time for his choice.
“I listen to a wide range of music,” Hamilton said. “But if I’m looking for something calming, I’ll always go back to Bach. His Goldberg Variations, nearly 300 years old, is one of the most sublime pieces of music ever written – it wraps you up and transports you.”
Cheesy video
And finally, Kevin Carr, director at the Protection Review, revealed pretty much anything by New Order tends to put him in a better mood.
“In terms of stress busting, I’d probably say Regret if pushed,” Carr said. “It’s such a summery vibe with all those memories from the mid-90s.
“And it has a really cheesy Baywatch inspired video, which is sarcastic and hilarious in equal measure.”
