Stephen Hough (pictured centre) has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the health and protection industry at the Health & Protection Awards 2025.

Hough has been at the forefront of the health insurance advice industry for more than three decades, having led some of the biggest names in the intermediary space.

Throughout more than 30 years he has been one of the most prominent faces of the industry.

A respected leader, he has guided firms through some of their most high-profile moments.

In his early career he led Leicestershire-based TF Bell to become a firm writing £15m of premium every year.

In 2008 the Towergate Partnership bought TF Bell with Hough as chief executive transferring along with the rest of the team.

He stayed with Towergate for a decade including two years as business director before leaving in 2018.

He then returned to the industry in spring 2021 as managing director of Premier Choice Healthcare and was a key part of the firm’s growth strategy following takeover by Brown & Brown.

This included at least a dozen mergers and acquisitions transactions as the firm built its presence in the UK market.

In 2025 he retired from the industry for the third time and potentially final time.
