Paula Coffey, director of claims, rehabilitation and medical services at Unum UK, has joined the executive committee at the Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries (AMII).
Having started as a practising registered nurse, Coffey (pictured) has built a career centred on managing clinical risks.
She is now focused on opening new channels of influence, strengthening member support, and enhancing AMII’s industry standing.
Speaking at AMII’s 2025 spring health and wellbeing summit, Coffey explained how the insurer was using artificial intelligence (AI) to help it identify policy definitions in its group risk products which can be improved.
She also outlined how it had cut claims decision times for cancer and neurological conditions on its group income protection (GIP) products.
Coffey said: “I am honoured to join the AMII executive committee after years of collaboration.
“AMII does incredible work supporting health insurance intermediaries, and I’m excited to contribute more directly to its mission. I look forward to bringing Unum’s trusted expertise and industry knowledge to help drive meaningful value for all members.”
Dave Middleton, executive chairman of AMII, said: “We are delighted to welcome Paula to our executive committee. Unum has been an outstanding addition to our membership, so we’re excited to work more closely with Paula, whose ideas and strategic vision will be a great addition to our executive committee.”
