Vast majority of workers dissatisfied with mental health support – PIB

The vast majority of workers aren’t satisfied with the mental health support their employers provide.

This is according to PIB Employee Benefits’s latest Mind the Gap survey, which polled 1,000 UK employees.

The report found health and wellbeing stood out as a particular area of concern as while 45% of employees said they received some form of mental health support from their employer, only 12% were satisfied with what was available and a further 21% would like more.

But this year’s findings also highlighted a growing dissatisfaction with employee benefits overall.

Around one in five employees reported being dissatisfied with the benefits they received, while a further one in seven said their employer did not offer any benefits at all. In effect, roughly a third of the workforce sat outside a ‘satisfied with benefits’ space.

Current and long-term finances also ranked among the most common areas where people want more support and are top factors negatively impacting work performance.

This year’s findings show that while 87% of employees ranked pension contributions as ‘very important’, more than half (52%) said they do not feel confident about their retirement outlook.

Victoria Watts, head of consulting at PIB Employee Benefits, said: “Mind the Gap 2026 shows we’re making progress, but it’s fragile.

“People are clear on what really matters – pay, leave, pensions and flexibility – yet too many either miss out on support or don’t realise what’s there for them. With pressure highest in smaller organisations, now is the time to join up financial, health and caring support, and make sure every employee really understands the value of what they’re getting.”
