Vitality adds anytime remote GP consultations, dynamic pricing and broadens Boots agreement

Vitality is expanding its remote GP consultations to be available anytime and adding more personalised health screenings as part of a series of updates to its health insurance plans.

It is also overhauling its protection underwriting to enable changeable life insurance premiums by introducing dynamic underwriting which recognises that a person’s health and risk can change over time.

Eligible members can reduce their premiums and earn cashback when they reduce their BMI (body mass index) and improve their risk profile.

Members receive a personalised BMI target and support through the Vitality Programme to help them work towards it, including support for healthy eating and physical activity, such as a discounted gym membership, fitness trackers and weight-management treatment services through WeightWatchers, Second Nature and Boots Online Doctor.

Anytime consultations and symptom checker

The health insurance arm is extending the agreement with Boots to give members access to a broader range of healthcare services with the high street chain taking over as optical network from Vision Express.

Eligible members can reduce their premiums and earn cashback when they reduce their BMI and improve their risk profile.

They receive a personalised BMI target and support through the Vitality Programme to help them work towards it, including support for healthy eating and physical activity, such as a discounted gym membership, fitness trackers and weight-management treatment services through Boots Online Doctor.

Vitality is introducing new anytime consultations which will allow members to provide their medical information digitally and receive clinical guidance and support through Vitality’s Care Hub, without needing to book an appointment.

A new symptom checker will also help members better understand symptoms and find appropriate guidance. Both services will be available from early November, alongside extended video GP opening hours through HealthHero.

Furthermore, in bid to give members more personalised heart-health screening, those with out-of-range health metrics will be offered advanced blood tests and/or an oculomic assessment, helping to identify their risk of heart disease earlier.

They will also be provided with more personalised guidance on the steps they can take to manage and reduce their risk.

The health metrics assessed as part of the Vitality Healthcheck are BMI, cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure, alongside factors such as smoking status.

Where results indicate an elevated risk, members may be offered additional blood tests covering Lipoprotein(a), Apolipoprotein B and eGFR (kidney function). There is no additional cost to members for these services.

Expanded Boots partnership

Vitality’s agreement with Boots is being expanded to give members access to a broader range of everyday healthcare services, digitally and on the high street.

From 2027, Vitality will begin rolling out a new GP service in selected Boots stores enabling members to access in-store support and advice from the Boots pharmacy team alongside a digital GP consultation, health observations and selected diagnostic services, with prescription treatment available, where appropriate.

There will be no additional charges for the extended pharmacy and GP services within Boots, Vitality told Health & Protection.

The provider will also offer discounted treatment through more Boots Online Doctor services, with VitalityHealth members receiving 20% off eligible prescription treatments through Boots Online Doctor, a healthcare service with access to clinical advice, treatment – where appropriate – and at home test kits.

But members will also now benefit from new optical and hearing cover options. Boots Opticians and Boots Hearingcare is Vitality’s new network partner for optical and hearing services, available as an add on to Vitality Health Insurance.

Vision Express was previously Vitality’s optical network partner while it did not previously have a hearing network partner.

The tie-in was first announced in March 2026 and focused on weight-management treatment access.

Changing role of PMI

Arun Thiyagarajan, CEO VitalityHealth, (pictured) said: “The role health insurance plays in people’s lives has changed significantly in recent years. We increasingly see people turn to their health cover not just when something goes seriously wrong, but for the everyday healthcare that can help them understand and manage their health earlier.

“These enhancements reflect that shift and the further impact we can have on people’s health by further expanding our services. By combining digital services with greater access to care on the high street, we’re giving members more choice, helping them access the best care wherever they are on the care pathway.

“Together, this creates a truly connected healthcare experience, spanning prevention, everyday care and specialist treatment, helping our members get the right support at the right time and giving them greater confidence to take control of their health.”
