Vitality to recommend and incentivise key healthy lifestyle changes

Vitality is to start recommending and incentivising ways in which members can live a longer and healthier life.

The insurer said it would use its data science and understanding of individual health risks to provide members with the one action that would have the biggest impact on their future health.

It will then recommend a personalised journey with tailored support through newly created pathways and offer incentives through additional Vitality points and status boosts.

The pathways that form part of the Next Best Action programme include maintaining and quitting smoking, losing weight, getting more active, managing stress and burnout, and improving physical activity.

Members will be offered programmes to follow and support from Vitality coaches and clinicians where appropriate.

The insurer is also making its healthspan algorithm which can help predict the number of years lived in good health available to all members.

Vitality CEO Neville Koopowitz noted that while most people wanted to make changes to improve their health, they often struggled to know where to start, what would make the biggest difference to them, and give them more years in good health.

“We have combined our clinical and actuarial skills, together with our expertise in behavioural change, to tackle this very issue,” he said.

“Our members will now be able to better understand how their lifestyle choices impact both their length and quality of life, alongside receiving both personalised support and incentives that will help them make and maintain these changes.”

Three more partners

Vitality has also added three more partners to its rewards programme – Peloton, Mindful Chef and PureGym.

Its members will be able to earn up to 40% cashback on a Peloton bike and other products with the cashback amount linked to the number of workout days recorded per month.

A discount of up to £10 per week on anything from the Mindful Chef website is available to members who earn a set amount of activity points.

And members can get up to 50% off PureGym membership depending on their status level.
