Axa Health International has appointed Dr Melissa Castro as head medical adviser, effective immediately.

In her new role, Dr Castro (pictured) will provide senior clinical leadership across Axa Health International and help shape its international health proposition.

Working closely with colleagues across the business and healthcare partners worldwide, she will provide guidance on complex medical cases, support the development of future-focused healthcare solutions, strengthen clinical governance and help improve health outcomes for customers around the world.

Dr Castro joins from Allianz Partners, where she built a diverse career spanning clinical practice, medical assistance, health insurance and operational leadership. Throughout her career, she has worked with multidisciplinary teams to optimise medical case management, strengthen quality standards and improve customer outcomes.

Originally from Mexico and now based in the UK, Dr Castro has lived and worked across multiple countries, giving her a broad understanding of diverse healthcare systems and the needs of internationally mobile customers.

Dr Castro said: “I’m delighted to be joining Axa Health International at such an exciting time. As healthcare continues to evolve, there is a real opportunity to combine strong clinical leadership with innovation to deliver even better outcomes for customers around the world.

“I look forward to working with colleagues across the business and our healthcare partners to continue developing a proposition that is clinically robust, customer focused and ready to meet the changing needs of internationally mobile customers.”

Sebastian Judez, global head of proposition and medical at Axa Health International, added: “Melissa’s appointment is an important addition to our leadership team. Her combination of clinical expertise, operational leadership and international experience makes her exceptionally well placed to strengthen the clinical foundations of our international health proposition.

“Health is central to Axa’s long-term strategy, and Melissa’s appointment reflects our continued investment in the expertise, innovation and clinical excellence that underpin our international health proposition.

“Her leadership will help us continue providing customers with access to premium international healthcare and support our ambition to become the leading global health and employee benefits specialist.”
