Bupa has appointed Tony Johnson as a non-executive director and a member of its audit, remuneration, and nomination and governance committees with effect from 1 June.

Johnson is currently chairman of the board of Bupa ANZ, the subsidiary board which has oversight over Bupa’s businesses in Australia and New Zealand and will be continuing in that role following his appointment to the Bupa board.

The insurer said he brings extensive Australian and Asia-Pacific financial services experience, and finance and risk knowledge from his senior leadership and client service roles at global professional services firm EY.

He was a partner and CEO of EY’s Oceania arm, as well as a member of Asia Pacific and global leadership teams and serves on the boards of Allianz Australia, Mercer Superannuation Australia and E&P Financial Group.

Don Robert, CBE, Bupa board chairman said: “We are delighted to welcome Tony to the Bupa board.

“His appointment will enhance the financial services experience on the board, particularly in Australia, Bupa’s largest market, as well as further strengthening the relationship with the Bupa ANZ board.”
