Stress, anxiety and depression now account for around half of all work-related ill-health cases in the UK.1 At the same time, workforces are more multi-generational than ever before, placing particular pressure on the sandwich generation as employees juggle careers, children and ageing parents.
These converging trends are creating a new reality for employers: 68% of employees experience burnout, and 68% struggle with work-related stress.2
As mental health pressures continue to rise, it is no longer enough to respond only when issues surface. Employers, alongside healthcare partners, must play a more proactive role in early intervention and prevention – helping people get support sooner, not later.

    1. Around 1.4 million people in the UK are sandwich carers
    2. Around half (53%) of sandwich carers reported that they were unable to work at all or as much as they would like.
    3. Employees who become sandwich carers experience a decline in mental and physical health.3

Research shows this pressure has a real impact. Employees who become sandwich carers experience declining mental and physical health, creating hidden business costs through lost productivity, increased absence, disengagement and attrition – particularly among experienced, mid-career talent. This is why employers, alongside healthcare partners, must play a more proactive role in early intervention and prevention – helping people get support sooner, not later.

Meet the speakers:

  • Sheery King – Founder and Director – Sandwich Generation Support
  • Rhiannon Blackley – Mental Health Clinical Lead, Bupa
  • Dan Cook, Co-founder and COO, JAAQ

What to expect:

In this live session, we’ll explore the rising mental health pressures in today’s workforce, including stress and burnout, and why these are being felt most acutely by the sandwich generation. We’ll examine the risks of inaction and how Bupa is enabling earlier, faster access to care through ConnectedCare pathways, trusted partnerships and more digital and personalised healthcare experiences. Plus we’ll explore the practical steps employers can take to protect wellbeing and performance.
