Cromwell Hospital has opened an international endometriosis treatment centre while HCA Healthcare has invested £7m in four new surgical robots.

Cromwell Hospital’s new international centre will help women get a diagnosis and treatment for endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a condition where the cells, similar to those that create the womb’s lining, grow elsewhere in the body, such as on the fallopian tubes. These cells react to the monthly menstrual cycle and bleed, but as there is no way for the blood to leave the body, it can cause inflammation, pain and scarring.

The centre, led by Mr Amer Raza, consultant gynaecologist at Cromwell Hospital, is supported by a nurse specialist, dieticians and physiotherapists.

Patients can be referred to the centre through their GP, their insurance company or on a self-referral and self-pay basis.

HCA invests £7m in da Vinci Xi robots

Meanwhile HCA Healthcare UK has invested in four new da Vinci Xi robots taking its total to seven da Vinci systems, across five hospitals including at: The Lister Hospital, The Wellington Hospital, London Bridge Hospital, The Princess Grace Hospital and The Christie Private Care.

This latest investment means the Lister Hospital can provide the option for minimally invasive robotic assisted surgery for soft tissue via da Vinci technology to its patients for the first time, with an expected annual procedure rate of 250.

The Lister Hospital now joins The Princess Grace Hospital as a training hub for consultants to develop their robotic surgery skills.

HCA Healthcare UK now has the capacity to perform more than 2,500 robotic assisted procedures a year.

The new investment also includes the installation of three upgraded da Vinci Xi’s at The Wellington Hospital, The Princess Grace Hospital and London Bridge Hospital.
