Dental claims fall 40% but average cost rises 12% – H&P Retail Cash Plan and Dental Plan Report

Dental plan costs per claim rose around 12% in 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic hit but overall providers paid out around 40% less than in 2019, Health & Protection can exclusively reveal.

The research found that overall claims costs dropped by around 40% during the year as surgeries were closed and patients stayed away with the pandemic in full force.

However, for those patients who did seek treatment, the average cost per claim rose by 12% from 2019.

Providers believe the increases are set to continue for at least this year and next due to several factors including personal protective equipment (PPE) and people returning with more severe treatment needs having missed regular check-ups.
