Exclusive: Scott joins Axa Health as head of SME Direct as Newman departs

PIB sales director Karl Scott is to join Axa Health as head of SME Direct in a newly created role.

Scott’s appointment follows the departure of head of intermediary management and SME Direct sales Tim Newman (pictured).

Newman took to LinkedIn to reveal he is leaving Axa Health after 35 years with the business during which time he has held a number of roles, working his way up from account manager to head of intermediary management and adding head of SME direct sales to his responsibilities in April 2024.

Newman said: “Since joining PPP in 1991 as a 17-year-old college dropout I’ve worked my way up from post room to board room (well nearly).

“Along the way I have met some incredible people, some of whom are now close friends and the most important person in my life, my wife Sue, who I was lucky enough to marry in 2004.

“Coincidentally she is also leaving Axa Health, so we ride off into the sunset together, happy that we were able to make the choice but forever grateful to Axa for giving us the opportunity to build successful careers and a great life together.”

When contacted by Health & Protection about Newman’s departure, Jordan Ayrey, SME distribution director at Axa Health, said he wanted to take the opportunity to recognise and thank Newman for almost 35 years of “outstanding” service to Axa Health.

“Throughout that time, Tim has been a passionate advocate for our business, leaving a lasting impact through his dedication, leadership and an unwavering commitment to our colleagues, partners and members,” he continued.

Ayrey added the business has created the new role of head of SME Direct with Karl Scott joining later this month to lead this area of the business.

“Karl joins us from PIB, where he serves as sales director for the commercial enterprise unit,” Arey continued.

“I’m sure his wealth of experience, fresh perspective and strong leadership will help shape the next chapter of our SME Direct proposition.”
