Their new boss is Yvette Cooper, who succeeded James Murray as secretary of state for health and social care in new PM Andy Burnham’s cabinet reshuffle at the start of the week.
McGovern has been MP for Birkenhead since 2024 and was previously minister of state for local government and homelessness between 6 September 2025 and 22 July 2026.
