Andrew Doran is to succeed Warren Copp as chief underwriter at Pacific Life Re.

Copp, who is retiring at the end of the year, was a founding member of Pacific Life Re’s executive team.

He oversaw development of the firm’s global underwriting and claims proposition and since 2017 has been responsible for the Pacific Life Re investment in UnderwriteMe, chairing the various boards.

Copp also played an integral role in the development of both companies with a particular focus on people and culture as well as client-facing propositions.

He will stay on at Pacific Life Re until the end of 2022 amid a gradual transition of his roles over the coming months.

Doran has almost 20 years of experience in the life and health insurance industry across the UK and Asia markets. He joined Pacific Life Re from Aviva in April 2020 as head of underwriting and claims for Asia.

In his new role he will be responsible for the underwriting and claims functions across the division, working closely with each business unit to implement the overall strategy. Alongside his chief underwriter role, he will continue his current responsibilities, and be based in Singapore.

Copp will also be passing on his chairmanship of UnderwriteMe to Michelle Moloney, who joined Pacific Life Re in 2021 as division chief risk officer.

Copp (pictured) commented: “I have been fortunate to be involved in building two fantastic companies from the very beginning. Along the way I have had the privilege to make many friends, who have made my time at Pacific Life Re and UnderwriteMe so special.

“I have always been very proud to represent both organisations and an industry that is centred on social good, something that was never more front of our minds than during the recent pandemic.

“I wish Andy and Michelle the very best. I am excited to watch the next stage of development of Pacific Life Re and UnderwriteMe with both businesses in the very best of hands.”

Doran added: “Over the years, Warren has been instrumental in leading the growth of our global underwriting and claims teams. He is also a well-respected and well-liked member of the industry and leaves behind a great legacy. I have big shoes to fill, but I am excited and proud to be taking on this role.

“The underwriting and claims profession continues to evolve, and is going through some very exciting changes. I am looking forward to working closely with my colleagues in taking on these challenges and grow our global business. I wish Warren all the very best in his retirement.”
