Vitality’s life and health insurance businesses both saw higher premium income and operating profits in the 2025-26 financial year, according to results from parent company Discovery.

New business at Vitality Life grew by a quarter during the year to the end of June.

This helped the life insurer to report a 15% improvement in earned premiums to £514m and produced a 27% gain in operating profit to £34.5m.

Meanwhile, Vitality Health’s earned premiums in the UK jumped 12% to £909m during the year.

This helped the private health insurer to report a 65% rise in operating profit to £83.6m, with an operating margin of 9.2% – above its 7.5% target.

The Discovery-owned insurer now covers more than two million people in the UK, spilt almost equally between Vitality Health and Vitality Life.

The group reported in June that 50% more advisers were placing business with the UK life business than there were two years ago.

Globally, Vitality covers 47 million lives having expanded across six continents.

As already reported by Health & Protection, Vitality Life paid £149m in UK claims across life, serious illness and income protection in 2025.

This was an almost 5% gain on the £142m total paid to members in the previous year.

In the first half of the year the insurer launched Vitality AI with Google across customer engagement, underwriting, healthcare management and operations.
