Hong Kong-based advice firm Alea Insurance has secured a broker licence in France and opened an office in Paris with the intention of expanding into Europe.

The intermediary firm was established in Hong Kong more than 13 years ago by co-founders and CEOs Amelie Dionne-Charest (pictured) and Julien Mathieu.

It will allow expansion of the Alea.care platform which already has licenses in several continents and hosts 300 solutions from 35 insurers.

“This move positions Alea as a key licensed intermediary in France, bridging the gap between European and Asian markets,” it said.

“As official partner of the Caisse des Français de l’Étranger (CFE) in Asia, Alea brings a unique value proposition to French and European expats, families and SMEs who need to navigate the often complex world of international health insurance,” it added.

Mathieu said: “Opening our Paris office is not just about a new location; it’s about bringing a new standard of personalised, independent advice to the European market while being closer to clients, insurance providers and partners.

“We have been seeing continued growth and now go one step further to simplify health insurance, in line with our ambition to build a leading international player.”

In 2023 Dionne-Charest told Health & Protection how the duo had founded the business from nothing and explored some of the key trends in the market.
